To address increasing volumes and provide enclosed NICU rooms for patients and their families, the NICU was relocated and expanded to approximately 64,000 square feet on the Second Floor of two connecting patient towers to provide a total of 90 rooms allowing for 98 babies.  The NICU was organized into neighborhoods or pods with decentralized team workstations to reduce noise and allow for flexing due to changes in census.  Circulation throughout the NICU was organized to provide dedicated corridors for staff, materials, and family traffic while minimizing unnecessary traffic through the individual NICU neighborhoods.
